Chasing Spring at Goryeosan – No Festival, but the Azaleas Still Bloom

The sky was gray, rain quietly falling, and last night, snow had even visited. I came to Goryeosan Mountain in Ganghwa to see the azaleas, only to find the annual festival canceled and the main hiking trails closed.

Despite the restrictions, I carefully wandered nearby paths. Along the hillside, clusters of blooming pink azaleas greeted me quietly, painting the early spring landscape with soft colors. Beneath a traditional hanok roof, delicate flowers whispered that spring had not given up.

The Azaleas Were Still There

I couldn’t climb to the summit, but even the mid-slope scenery was breathtaking. The pink blossoms stood out vividly against the muted backdrop of bare trees and damp ground, like little promises that life always finds a way back.

Snow Yesterday, Rain Today

Locals told me snow had fallen the night before. The idea of snow and azaleas together seemed strange at first—yet oddly poetic. By morning, only rain remained. The forest was hushed, the trails quiet. With no crowd around, I heard the trees, the petals, and the wind. Spring was speaking in its own way.

Even Without the Festival, Spring Arrives

Sure, a festival would’ve added vibrant energy and excitement. But today’s calmness brought something else—an unexpected depth. Spring doesn’t need applause to arrive. It simply does.

A quiet forest path, a traditional house nestled below the hill, and the brave little flowers blooming despite it all. That was enough to fill my heart.

Digital Wanderer’s Reflection
Even when events are canceled,
Even when snow falls in spring,
Azaleas still bloom on the hillside.
Quietly, but surely.
